Just when the weather gets right, the skies bring snow. It’s a white reset to our year and a brilliant chance to re-connect with nature. The hint of the white stuff coming our way gives me butterflies, getting stoked for another season of epic lines and incredible finds. It's a zest in the air that adds a spring to the step, the season is approaching.
This year’s addition of the farmer’s almanac is calling for a precipitation here out in Western Canada that is to be above average. The annual publication calls for some big snow through November, into January and through March. It’s a stellar forecast that can be found at http://www.almanac.com/weather/longrange.
Andrew Rushyck over at Castle Mountain in Pincher Creek Alberta was pretty happy with the size of the berries at this year’s annual Huckleberry Festival. In the past 10 years, it’s a theory that has never let him down, “when you see the berry’s this fat and juicy, it's traditionally meant lots of snow is on the way,” said Rushyck.
While in I was in Whistler two months ago for the Canadian Ski Council Meetings, a meteorologist from Environment Canada was calling for another El Nino year with more precipitation and some higher than expected snowfalls for us here in the West.
Sound’s like we all may want to keep our snorkel gear handy.
